Week of May 7, 2012
This week’s 10 vocabulary AND spelling words are:
arch
attention
award
collapse
demolish
excess
outline
sculpture
spade
utensil
Both the spelling and meaning of these words should be studied for Friday’s tests. The sentences due on Friday should include these 10 words and have a minimum of 6 words along with a parent signature. The 3 pages of exercises in the packet handed out today are due on Thursday, and should be treated like the spelling workbook pages. Thank you for your understanding.
There will no longer be pretests on Mondays. Students should also discontinue finding Bonus Buck words using post-it notes as Homeworkopoly ended Friday.
Don’t forget all Chicago projects assignments were given on Friday. There is a confirmation letter in your child’s folder from today that solidifies their final choice for this project. All reports and projects are due Monday, May 21st!
Thank You,
Ms. Prestinario

Week of May 1, 2012
Dear 3P Families,
We are in our last week of Storytown for reading and spelling. For the last few weeks left of school, we will have 10 new words from Wordly Wise to study the meaning and spelling of. There will still be some exercises due on Thursday and sentences due on Friday too. Homeworkopoly ends on Friday. May is our last month for a reading log as well. Please do not forget to donate some items for our groovy cool/rock-and-roll themed Fun Fest basket or some extra change to Ragnar for Rory. Thank you for your kindness and generosity for these worthwhile causes. Thank you in advance for helping your child with their very exciting Chicago projects due Monday, May 21st. Students will get their specific monument assigned next week. With MAP testing, CBM testing, Ragnar for Rory, Fun Fest, Field Day, a field trip to Chicago, the ABC countdown to the end of the year and Step Up day, we are going to be kept very busy from now until June 6th!
Enjoy your week!

On Monday we didn’t switch for math in order to do our district writing benchmark.
We will finish basic multiplication this week and start basic division facts next week. Thanks for your continued support with flashcards at home.
Also, thank you to all who funded the purchase of books at the Used Book Fair this week. The students were excited to check out the assortment of books donated.
We will be having a bus evacuation drill on Friday. In addition, we will also be talking as a school about why it’s important not to gossip.
Next week author, Sarah Weeks, will be visiting Indian Trail School to talk to us about her books. If you would like to purchase a book for her to autograph, please be sure to get your forms in soon.
Thank you to all who donated to the District 112 iRead Foundation this year. New reading logs for the remainder of April will only require 300 minutes to be logged by the 30th.
Our new science unit will include the solar system and begin on Monday, April 23rd.
There are cookbooks available in the office to purchase for $15.
As we learn about adverbs this week, we are reading a poem and expository nonfiction piece on spiders and their webs.
Lastly please contact me if you would like to chaperone our field trip to the Chicago History Museum on May 29th.

Week of April 2nd
Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely spring break. We have a short week this week with no school on Friday, April 6th. This means all assignments usually due on Friday will be due on Thursday instead this week. (Due Thursday-spelling workbook, study spelling words and vocabulary definitions, spelling sentences and vocabulary quiz, and words for Homework-opoly) We are reading a popular fantasy this week in Storytown, Charlotte’s Web. We are comparing and contrasting it to an expository nonfiction piece about caterpillars’ and spiders’ webs. We are learning about making inferences, multiple meaning words, the suffixes -tion and -sion, and irregular verbs. In science we are continuing to build amazing simple machines in cooperative groups. Multiplication is still our focus in math class this week. In social studies, we are celebrating the diverse cultures that make up our community. We are so close to learning all the cursive capital letters, as well as the complete list of math facts fixers. Please help your child review multiplication facts each night if they don’t already know their facts by heart. All student goal sheets from conferences were sent home yesterday. These should remain on the bring back side of home folders so we have them at school and at home when we need to reference them. Please assist your child with their highlighted goals in both math and reading to ensure progress on the final MAP test in May. Thanks for all you do to help your child be a success. Have a wonderful long weekend!
